This place is absolutely delicious. Definitely in the top 3 best sushi restaurants I have visited. Unagi was so fresh, and the California crunch rolls are unbelievable. I could eat 100 of them if I could ! Are you down for some amazing sushi? GO HERE! You won't be disappointed. Price was fair. You get what you pay for, and they have tip-top sushi !

I’ve never once had a bad meal here. My wife and I drive up from Madison occasionally because it’s the best sushi in the whole state. We use to live much closer but I can’t find a place in Madison that has the flavor close to Matsu-Ya. Red might be thee closest but that’s too expensive. I tip my cap to the folks that work there. Service is always amazing and the quality of the food is outstanding.

Fantastic food and a great atmosphere! You can watch them make the sushi if you're sitting at the bar, and the sushi is just spectacular. Their seasonal specials are delicious and they have some awesome basic rolls that are inexpensive so you can fill up your order and your belly with delicious sushi.

This is our favorite sushi place in Central Wisconsin. Food is always great, staff friendly, and has sweet plum wine. The owners do take an extended yearly trip home so watch their page but wife loves the place. Always looks forward to when they will be back. Last stop was just for a couple California rolls as a snack on the way home.

Matsu Ya isn’t just my favorite sushi spot—it’s the only sushi spot that matters. I’ve done the rounds in every big city, chased down the so-called “best,” and I can confirm, it’s a waste of time. Nothing compares. After enough disappointing rolls elsewhere, I stopped bothering. Matsu Ya stands alone. The chefs? Absolute legends. They always agree to make my off-menu favorites, and every plate they send out is so flawless that even even half-starved and foaming at the mouth, I still pause to admire it—right before inhaling it. And the hot sake? Betcha can’t have just one. I never do. The flavors here ruin sushi everywhere else. When I lived out of state, I’d fly back and beeline here like a starved animal. First stop, every time. If you’re still out there entertaining other sushi joints, I respect your journey—but you’ll end up here eventually.

Fresh and authentic, and family friendly. The rolls were rolled well with perfect distribution and cut well. The ramen, as always was flavorful and packed with fresh ingredients. I received a generous helping of fresh green onion, and the knife work was nice and uniform. We were asked if regular chopsticks were okay, I asked in return what were the choices, (honestly thinking of metal in place of the disposable). They make the kid friendly chopsticks on request, for me, I like this over being handed a fork and spoon. This encourages a better connection to the culture and the food as a whole experience. Glad this place is here.

Wonderfully surprised! I enjoy sushi and have visited many places, but to find an amazing sushi place in the middle of Wisconsin is a fun surprise. You know a place is good when it is super busy. People were coming and going the entire time, including a lot of take out pick up orders. Great sashimi and lots of different rolls to be tried. Worth the trip.
